Saturn

The name came after. After the firing, the speckled glaze made the surface look like a planet.

A piece that looks simple.A double-walled ceramic vessel, slip-cast in plaster and glazed to keep the speckle. The geometry is quiet on the outside. Inside it carries the work that a lot of attempts made possible.

The hard part isn't visible.

It took several attempts.

The challenge was the double wall: an inner cavity and an outer body, made in one piece. Several molds and several pours before the geometry held. Each failure taught the next one where the wall thickness needed to change.
